Richard Creed
Richard has owned and operated Restoration Contractors since 1986. His business experiences include working on several historical dwellings including homes and buildings at the Greensboro Historical Museums and historical buildings and homes in Charleston, SC. His experiences with historical buildings inspired him to built a log cabin in 2008, now home to Piedmont Bushcraft, with trees harvested from the property.
In addition, he is the owner of 144 Tactical Range, LLC in Greensboro, NC, a private range built in 2012. He has been a certified NRA Pistol Instructor, and a certified Range Safety Officer since 2017. Another certification he has earned, is a Gunshot Wound First Aid responder. As the owner of 144 Tactical Range, Richard trains armed security teams throughout the year. In addition, he teaches De-escalation and Threat Assessment Seminars and leads Scenario Training regularly.
Richard's love for the outdoors started early in life as a young man. Squirrel and rabbit where high on the list of game pursued. Later on, those small game hunting trips changed to pursuing deer and turkey. He served as a turkey hunting guide and field rep for Heart of Dixie Game Calls in the mid 80’s, and has successfully hunted turkeys in 8 different states. Richard has harvested well over 150 deer, the vast majority of which were harvested with a muzzle loader rifle. Other successful hunting trips include harvesting an elk with a handmade long bow and successfully hunting/trapping over 20 different species of game. He has also enjoyed hiking and camping in the mountains and has hiked several sections of the Appalachian Trail totaling over 450 miles of the trail. Many lessons were learned on "what not to take," and what you really can do without. "A heavy pack in the mountains, is a lesson not soon forgotten."
The movies “Jeremiah Johnson”, “Cast Away”, and the shows “Dual Survivor” and “Alone”, really sparked an interest in learning as much as possible about Bushcraft. As long as he remembers he has felt right at home in the woods. Richard is constantly seeking to learn new bushcraft skills and has a desire to share with others the skills, knowledge, and experiences enjoyed through his bushcraft experiences. He encourages people he meets to get out and enjoy God’s great creation. He believes you should prepare well, minimize gear, and test yourselves. He has adopted “The more you know, the less you need” mindset.
