Water Sources, Purification and Filtration

Lost in the woods, drank all the water in your pack but found a creek, how do you turn that into safe drinking water regardless of having a fire or not? Besides obvious water sources, what alternative sources are available, how do you identify and extract water from them? Stranded in an arid environment or on a deserted island with nothing but ocean water, do you create a solar still, catchment device or distillation system for saltwater and how do you do that?  Learn which purification method, whether it be chemical, filtration or distillation, is best for a variety of scenarios and how to execute. In this class we will talk about all the ways water is important to our survival and the many ways we can source it including alternative methods such as indicator plants, trees and animal patterns, as well as, how to dowse for underground sources. We will review manufactured and traditional purification systems, when to use an additional filtration system and how to create one from commonly found resources.  Hands On Activity: Participants will make and practice using dowsing rods.
